Nellie McKay at the Paradise tonight

<Update> – two photos on flickr from the show – sorry for the low quality but I only had the cellphone camera, and the way the stage was setup we were watching Nellie’s back through most of it.

Nellie McKay at the Paradise

Strange to watch someone sing and play piano from behind – but the sound was great.

Nellie McKay at the Paradise
Here she’s playing the ukulele – did “Mrs. brown You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter” and “If I Were a Bell” quite nicely.

Didn’t get on stage till 10pm, apologized and said something about getting lost in Boston.

<End Update>

Ok, so it’s really last minute – but Nellie McKay’s playing at the Paradise tonight in Allston. (see the Boston.com events page, or Last.fm page, or the LiveNation page).

Nellie McKay

Sebadoh at the Paradise

Bradley’s Almanac has Sebadoh Live at the Paradise:

Overall, great set, nice and long, and not super-tight… but if it was, it wouldn’t have been Sebadoh. Nice to see a few post-Eric songs make it into the setlist (just as Dino Jr. has been doing with a few after-Lou songs). Won’t surprise you to hear my only complaint is: Needed more Loewenstein. Sure hope he’s working on another solo record.

In addition the MP3s, Bradley also points to his photos from the show.

When I was an undergrad at BU, I spent my first year living in Rich Hall on West Campus, right around the corner from the Paradise.

Glad to see they still have great shows.

Dinosaur Jr in store – Harvard Square Urban Outfitters, June 11

Update (6/15/07): The always reliable Bradley’s Almanac has mp3s and a description of the show. He also points to (bottom of the article) other places for photos and the like.

Dinosaur Jr

The folks at Free YR Radio are sponsoring an in-store appearance by Dinosaur Jr. at the Harvard Square Urban Outfitters. Newbury Comics in Harvard Square. Monday, June 11th, 8:00pm.

To get in, you have to go here and print and bring the invitation.

Free YR Radio is “crafted by Yaris and Urban Outfitters:”

Having access to non-commercial radio is like having an older brother or sister who always knows about cool stuff before you do. College and non-commercial radio has long been a breeding ground of taste, culture, and personality. Poll any band, label honcho or commercial radio personality, and you’ll find that a huge, almost ridiculous number of ‘em got their start at a college station. Recognizing that, Toyota Yaris and Urban Outfitters joined together and created a program that supports and publicizes the importance of non-commercial radio. Thus, Free Yr Radio was born.

The cynical view would see this as a marketing ploy to sell more Toyota’s, and to increase brand awareness of Urban Outfitters, which I’ve just fallen pray to by linking to them in this blog post.

Am I cynical? Yes: but I’m happy to see major corporations support non-commercial radio (in this case WERS), and I’m happy to see Dinosaur Jr!
