Using Yahoo! Pipes to get Podcast Feed from Official.fm
The Waiting Room

(This post is a bit more geeky, in the coding sense, than the usual goatless fare – but it is about music in the end). One of my long time favorite podcasts is The Waiting Room, by One Half of Drunk Country and The Woman of the House. They were on WOXY.com, they were on error.fm, they used to be [...]

Other Lives
other_lives

So I’m sometimes convinced I should just turn this blog into an auto-re-posting feed of everything that comes into my podcast client: between KEXP‘s Music That Matters, Live Performances, and Video of the Week; KCRW‘s Morning Becomes Eclectic; and NPR Music‘s All Songs Considered, Tiny Desk Concerts, and Live in Concert, I’m never going to run out of things to [...]

Well Rounded Radio
Well Rounded Radio

Just discovered this local music interview podcast to help folks discover new music. Very eclectic set of artists, genres, and other interviewees: everything from Amanda Palmer to Larry Lessig to Yoko K. (Ok, just realized the Amanda Palmer interview goes all the way back to 2008 – guess I haven’t been paying enough attention!). Subscribe in iTunes or via RSS, [...]

Coverville Countdown FTW!
Coverville

Brian Ibbott of Coverville allows encourages people each year to send in brief “intros” to each of the top 40 songs in the Coverville Countdown. This year I took him up on the offer – and he used my entry! Check out part III of the 2007 Coverville Countdown (assuming you’re not already a subscriber). That’s me introducing track #21! [...]

As the name suggests it is heavily influenced by “alt. country” artists, but with a pretty eclectic mix of classic and indie. The podcasts are sometimes themed, sometimes have guests, sometimes [...]

Milling Gowns Flophouse Sessions
Milling Gowns Flophouse Session

Favorite new, unexpected gem of the week: Flophouse Sessions 51: The Milling Gowns. The Flophouse Sessions is a wonderfully cool show produced by Andy Guthrie and Jen Kelley, podcasters extraordinaire and Somerville residents behind Band in Boston. Band in Boston covers all kinds of music, not just local artists – where the Flophouse Sessions focus mostly on local bands, who [...]

More time to call your representatives

(via ars technica) Good news: Internet radio will remain safe and sound, at least through July of this year, on account of a new decision by the US Copyright Royalty Board. This means more time to call your representative and urge them to back HR 2060, the Internet Radio Equality Act.

Save Internet Radio!

As you’ve likely seen reported, the Copyright Royalty Board decided to dramatically increase royalty rates for internet streaming, and changing the way that such royalties are calculated. This will make it cost-prohibitive for many online steaming stations to continue. From SaveNetRadio.org: The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a [...]
