Under Byen

Latest find, courtesy of KEXP’s live performances podcast, which recorded them at SXSW, is a Danish band called Under Byen. They remind me of the Sugarcubes crossed with Sigur Rós – and not just because they sing in Danish, which is as incomprehensible to me as Icelandic, but because they create beautiful, atmospheric, alternative pop songs.

The NPR Sessions page also lists the setlist from the SXSW show – with free machine translations in parenthesis:
- “Den Her Sang Hangler Om At Fa Det Bedste Ud Af Det” (The Here Song Propensity About That Fa That Good Forth From That)
- “Heftig”(Violent)
- “Tindrer” (Tindrer?)
- “Af Samme Stof Som Stof” (To the Same Effect Body That Body)
- “Film Og Omvendt”(Movie and Vice-Versa)

He-he, interesting translations. Some better ones can be found here:

Den her sang handler om at få det bedste ud af det = This song is about making the best of it

Thanks Lars – I should have figured there were better translations out there.
Af Samme Stof Som Stof = Of Same Matter as Matter / Of Same Fabric as Fabric
(Is this really just Of Same Stuff as Stuff?)
Hey John,
I was perusing yer site and noticed yer affinity for KEXP. Which I too absolutely love (especially gotta support our homie Kevin Cole)! I had DL’d Under Byen from their SOD (Song of the Day) Podcast and it is one of my current favorites. In fact I basically just DL’d as many of the SOD songs as I could fit on my Blackberry and then just let run in shuffle mode. I used to be big on KCRW, but once I found KEXP I never really looked back. I mean when we lived in LA I would still occaisionally listen to KCRW in the car, but if I am streamin you know it’s gotta be KEXP ;0)
